Overview

Most therapists deeply understand the psychological contributors to mental health, but the biological ones often remain invisible. In this special webinar, Dr. James Greenblatt, Chief Medical Officer at Psychiatry Redefined, and pioneer in functional and nutritional psychiatry, will introduce clinicians to the science connecting nutrition, micronutrients, and brain function—and why these root-cause factors are essential for understanding irritability, depression, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation.

Drawing from more than 30 years of clinical work and emerging research, Dr. Greenblatt, a dual-certified clinical psychiatrist will explain how biochemical individuality, nutrient deficiencies, metabolic stress, and overlooked physiological factors can drive the very symptoms therapists struggle to treat through psychotherapy alone. Attendees will learn foundational principles of Functional Psychiatry and gain practical insights they can use immediately in sessions, referrals, and treatment planning.

Attendees will learn how to:

  • Recognize how genetics, environment, and nutrient status shape the mental health symptoms presenting in therapy (including irritability, mood swings, impulsivity, and emotional dysregulation).
  • Understand how nutritional deficiencies—particularly lithium, zinc, copper imbalances, and metabolic stress—can underlie chronic psychiatric symptoms.
  • Identify when symptoms may signal a biological root cause and how to integrate this knowledge into collaborative care and clinical decision-making.
